We all must have remembered the 1st day of our school. Some of you have joined the school from the nursery level, or some of you might have started directly from the 1st standard. The education system of India has been designed so that every small activity plays a significant role in the student’s learning process. The system wants the students to utilise their skills to have a brighter future.
Day 1 of schooling is a memorable moment for every child. You all have felt excited about the new school bag, books, school dress, lunch box etc. And have you remembered that along with this new school material, you also had a school diary? The school dairy played an essential role in the primary classes. It helps keep the record of what we have learned in the classroom & what all work we have to do after going home. The school diary also played a valuable role in conveying the message between the class teacher and parents. When we had a parent-teacher meeting in school, our teacher used the school diary to convey the message. As our parents regularly check the school diary, they know the message. And hence they get to know the critical update of school. This all was going well till primary classes, but as the classes started getting higher and higher, the school diary had taken the form of homework.
Homework is good until students learn from it and do it excitingly. But the moment students start feeling the pressure, it becomes a burden to them. And here is the essence of homework overs. In higher classes, mostly above 8th standard, most students just copy the task from others or blindly do it to finish the homework. Therefore, homework does not serve the students studying in higher classes. Giving homework serves as a spoon-feeding for them. It kills the analytical, question-asking ability of the students. Therefore, to promote self-learning, students should be given less homework. Also, the students studying in a higher class should induct more into self-learning than spoon-feeding.
Homework also helps students revise the portion taught inside the classroom. Sometimes teachers assign tasks of memorizing some subject related concepts like slogan in english, important Maths concepts, etc. Proper revision regularly makes the preparation process easier because, during the exam, they just have to go through the concepts quickly.
What will happen if there is no homework for the students?
If students are not given the homework, they can utilize that time to learn new things. They can devote the time to understand their area of interest. Students can use the time to clarify the subjects by referring to the essential study resources. They can solve more variety of questions from different resources. It’s human nature that the solution that you find yourself, you remember it for a long time otherwise you forget it soon. Therefore, Class 9 students should not directly see the RS Aggarwal Solution Class 9; instead, they must first try. If they have any doubt or cannot find the correct solution, then only they should see the solutions.
Don’t let your natural curiosity die. Instead, use your homework in such a way that it makes you learn new things and develop interest within you. Just working on homework won’t be enough to score excellent marks in the exam. One should be well-versed with their subject wise syllabus, practise sample papers, previous years’ papers, etc. Students can get their study-related materials from their official board website and various online sources.
